 Swamp Chestnut Oak

A good shade tree that does well in damp locations. The sweet acorn is preferred by many animals.

Plant Facts:

Common Name:   Swamp Chestnut Oak

Botanical Name:   Quercus michauxii

Plant Type:  Deciduous tree

Zones: 4-10

Height:  70-80'

Soil Requirements:  Prefers damp locations.

Water Requirements: Low drought tolerance.

Light Requirements: Full sun to part shade.

Leaves:  Oval leaves from 4-10" long. Turn yellow to yellow-brown to red in the fall.

Flowers: Catkins.

Fruit: 1 1/2" acorn covered by a fringed cup.

Uses:  Good shade tree for damp locations.

Propagation:  Seeds.
